This research is dedicated to the exploration on how urban design is understood and how the city is experienced from a gender perspective. A literature review on the breath of this research subject has been undertaken, identifying potential streams of research in other fields of studies and disciplines. The review comprises of a compilation of the most significant and influential bodies of academic research and practice projects, including perspectives on the feminist city, queer studies and the urban environment, masculinity in urban design, gender in urban politics and the morphology of the city, and others. The second stage of this research looks at reviewing significant urban planning and design projects.
