As they travel and change location, many people notice that some cities are characterised by a vivid and contrasting sense of time, and at a smaller scale, so are particular places within cities. Such cities and places are commonly perceived as fast or slow. And within cities, specific urban places are perceived to be temporally distinct. The sense of time is not only somewhat intersubjective but also location or place-specific. This presentation will elaborate on the urban sense of time and rhythm insofar as it relates to the specifics of urban places, and as it varies relative to a distinctive aesthetics of place associated with temporality. The focus is on the temporal aesthetics of urban places and the notion of place-temporality in the way it is defined through experience and place rhythmic attributes; an aesthetics akin to music.
